Nutrition Coaching

What is Nutrition Coaching?

“Nutrition coaching is about people. How they think. How they feel. How they live. Why they act the way they do. As a nutrition coach, you work with real people and their real struggles, all within the messiness of their real lives. In other words, effective nutrition coaching has more to do with behavior change psychology than it does with nutrition science.”

~ Krista Scott-Dixon, Alisa Bowman, Ryan Maciel from Precision Nutrition.

This is not a meal plan, but a partnership centered on helping you make peace with food and your body while implementing healthy habits to optimize your nutrition, whether it’s for everyday life and longevity or performance in the gym and sports.

In a session, you can expect to discuss calories, macros, portion sizes, learning to read food labels, how to eat mindfully, health benefits of certain foods, food journals, and eating for fuel, to name a few. But we might not even talk about food at all, focusing instead on relationships, sleep, stress, work, kids, body image, and all the other things that affect how and what we eat.

Meet our coaches

Kate Czerwenka

Kate Czerwenka

Certified PT, BA, Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach

Kate has a long and complicated relationship with food and has lived in a body that has ranged in sizes. Initially, food was the enemy, something to be restricted and moralized, which led to over a decade of chronic dieting in the pursuit of the thinness ideal.

After becoming a certified nutrition coach through Precision Nutrition, Kate began to preach the importance of a balanced diet consisting of moderation, variety, and sustainability while slowly transitioning away from diet culture. She now addresses health from a weight inclusive approach that stresses behaviours and habits that nourish the body rather than deprive it so you can feel good in your body every day, regardless of its size.

Kate will help you determine what a balanced diet looks like for YOU. This is not a meal plan, but rather a partnership that will help you live confidently and happily in your body while fostering healthy habits that promote performance and longevity. Food isn’t good or bad and it isn’t just simply fuel. Instead, it’s a social connection, it’s how we identify, it’s part of our culture, and it’s pretty delicious!

MitchELL Johnson

Certified PT,  Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach, Powerlifter

Mitchell has struggled with his weight his whole life, going through cycles of weight gain and weight loss. After several years of his own experiences working through episodes of binge eating, excessive restriction, intermittent fasting… you name it; he embarked on what is now a lifelong journey into learning more about health, fitness, and nutrition. Throughout the course of his fitness journey, Mitchell has worked with numerous trainers and coaches, as well as becoming certified as a Personal Trainer and Precision Nutrition Level 1 coach himself, absorbing as much knowledge as possible while experimenting with his own nutritional and training practices/routines.

Nutrition coaching is a learning process, and the best part is, it looks a little different for everyone! With a focus on longevity and general health, Mitchell will guide you through stacking small habits that are tailored to you, understanding the truth behind calories & macronutrients, and creating a more conducive environment for a healthier, happier lifestyle, which you can sustain long-term. Making adjustments to your lifestyle isn’t a one and done deal; it will take practice, and with practice comes improvement. Sure there will be highs, lows, twists and turns, but that’s life. And if we’re being honest, how much fun would it really be without them?

Tiers of Service

For your first month, you will meet with your coach up to four times for 30 minutes to help you get started and begin establishing a baseline. After the first month, you and your coach will decide if you would like to continue with the same amount of in-person check-ins or if you’re confident with less direct supervision. Regardless of the tier you choose, you will always have direct access to your coach through email and text at any time. The cost of the monthly subscription will depend on the amount of in-person sessions.

Tier 1

Weekly 30 minute in-person check-ins + email and text access to coach.

Tier 2

Bi-weekly 30 minute in-person check-ins + email check-ins the other two weeks.

Tier 3

One monthly meeting + email check-ins the other three weeks .

What to expect in your free 60 minute assessment:

This is your hour to learn about yourself and food in a non-judgemental environment to evaluate where you’re thriving and struggling, so we can meet you on your level. Expect to answer questions about your goals, dieting history, current nutrition, and external factors that may be affecting how and what you eat. This will allow our coaches to get to know you as an individual, so we can recommend tailored solutions.

All of this can even be done from the comfort of your home! Assessments and sessions can be conducted in-person at our downtown Vancouver location, or you can meet with your coach virtually if you’re traveling or live out of town.
